This large circular mosaic which gives the villa its name depicts Theseus killing the Minotaur within the labyrinth on the island of Crete. Ariadne (the daughter of King Minos) looks on. She had fallen in love with Theseus and given him the ball of thead which enabled him to navigate the labyrinth and kill her half-brother the Minotaur.
